Mel has been home for 5 days now and his pain patch is off. I am amazed at how much the swelling and bruising has already gone down. He has mastered the art of marking and we are not having he peeing issues like we were in the beginning. His appetite is back to normal and I don’t even think he notices his leg is missing anymore. The hardest part at this point is getting him to REST. He is sick of being cooped up in the house and he is ready to run! I can’t believe the progress he has made in such a short time.
Mel is looking so good!! Is he on any other pain meds or anti-inflammatories now that he’s off the fentanyl patch, or is he doing pretty well without any meds?
Even though Mel thinks he’s perfectly fine to run… try to keep him from doing that for a little while longer. I can just imagine how hard it is to keep him from taking off… after seeing that funny video of him jumping up so high after the laser light! 🙂
Hope he keeps doing well, and that he’s back to his old crazy self in no time!!!

He is still on 1 Tramadol twice a day and one Rimadyl in the morning.
That’s good! I always worry when some vets say to take them off their pain meds within just a few days of their huge surgery. Animals don’t complain about their pain like us humans…
Hopefully Mel isn’t having any bad side effects with the tramadol like so many other of the Tripawds here have had. Luckily for my Jake, he also tolerated it very well without issues.
Post some videos of your sweetie when you get a chance… He is absolutely adorable!!! Love that face!!! 🙂

My Golden had her front leg amputated today. Thanks for the inspiration!
Aww I’m sorry to hear that 🙁 why did they have to amputate? She will amaze you, I promise!
Way to go Mel!!! Its so hard to convince them that the rest is for their own good!
Keep on geting better.

Mel is looking great! I think we’re just a few days ahead of you (Nikki is currently on day 8) and having about the same experience. I cannot believe how amazing these dogs are…
blakeley85 – Good luck!! The first couple of days post surgery are the worst, and you’re going to be second-guessing your decisions, but hang in there, you’ll be amazed at how quickly it passes.
super news! You must be so proud 😉
Keep being strong Mel. You are a trooper!
