Day 6

Mel went in this morning to have his darn seroma drained again. The test results came back from his lyphnode and they are not good at all. 75% of the lyphnode is cancer and highly malignant. As soon as he has healed we are going to start the Pred an CCNU. I am also going to be taking him to an oncologist as soon as I can get an appointment. He is doing so well and this news just breaks my heart. After all this dog has been through he doesn’t deserve this. It’s just not fair.

  1. Hi Catie,
Certainly not the news you were hoping for. I know its discouraging now- but as hard as it is you need to stay positive for Mel.
Don’t give up hope- you have to be realistic- but he is fine now. Talk to the oncologist, come up with a plan, and move foreward.

You need to be positive until Mel gives you a reason not to be.

  2. I was just reading Maggie’s story again and it is amazing how similar their cases are. I know I have said it before but your story has given me alot of hope. All the internet research I do calls for the worst possible outcome. If maggie is still going strong 3 years later I know Mel can too.

  3. I’m so sorry the test did not come out how we all hoped. Please try to be positive for Mel. He really does live for the moment, I will pray that the appt with the new onccoligist goes well.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about the biopsy results too. My experience with Zoe was the same as well, upon removal of lymph node during amputation surgery they discovered it had already spread, and her tumor was much larger than expected. I remember feeling like I put her through all that for nothing, but don’t give up hope. We are on round 6 of CCNU (we also did Pred at first), it has been almost 6 months since the diagnosis. We realize each day is a gift and try not to focus on numbers and statistics. And I agree, if little Maggie can do it, then so can Mel. (She is our idol too:))

  5. Please don’t let this news get you down (I know it’s hard.) The oncologist may offer some more positive insight, I know that was true for me with Nova. Be strong for Mel. If Maggie can do it, so can he!

  6. Thanks 🙂 I’m so happy i found this site, I need the encouragement. I just printed out Maggie’s story and gave it to my vet along with the chemo protocol she was on. I have a prescription for the CCNU in hand but we can’t start anything till the leg heals up. My vet and I are determined to beat this. Now I know it’s possible. I wish you and Zoe the best of luck and keep me posted on her progress.

  7. Mel

You look like a dog who can tackle incredible obstacles just the way you leap to the ceiling of the kitchen. I am sorry to hear the news you heard today, but bet it won’t keep you down for a second.

  8. Melsmom,

I’m sorry to hear about the lymphnode diagnosis… I know you feel like it’s a big setback. But try to stay positive… so many others here have gone through similar situations, but have beat the odds for quite a while after their diagnosis… Mel is such a tough cookie… and I’m hoping for the best for both of you!! Please keep us posted!!

  9. Hey Mel, we know this news isn’t great, but please remember that lots of us defied all of the expectations and grim prognoses that our vets gave us. Like my friend Trouble likes to say, our butts don’t have date stamps on them; nobody knows how long we have. I have faith that you are a strong, resilient pup who will beat the odds. Hang in there!

  10. We’re so sorry to hear the news, Mel! We are sending best wishes, and lots of hugs and doggie kisses your way. We’ll keep fingers and paws crossed that you can beat the odds and keep enjoying each moment with your love of life!
