Mel needs your prayers

I just had to rush Mel into the vet on emergency. His temp shot up to 106 and he was very lethargic. They think he might be a little septic. They are keeping him over night on IV fluids and antibiotics. Please pray for him. I know he is strong but he is very, very sick. I can’t help but think if I had never found that lump on his leg he wouldn’t be going through all this now.

  1. Oh nooooooo! Mel, you are definitely in our prayers right now, we are so very sorry. Please know that there have been other Tripawds here who have battled serious infections like this and come through with flying colors. We KNOW you can do it too. Come on Mel, you can do it!

And tell your pawrents that we know it’s so hard, but try not to live with any regrets. We all do the best we can with the information we have at the time. It’s hard for humans not to beat themselves up, isn’t it?

    Prayers coming at you.

  2. C’mon Mel. Hang in there! We need our tripawd comedian!

Will be thinking of you today and will check back to see how things are going.

  3. Just talked to the vet he is a lot perkier. They went and got him 3 cheeseburgers and he ate them all. I am so thankful for everyone at my vets office. They love him so much they are just sitting with him, petting him, hand feeding him and making sure he is happy.

  4. Hey Mel,

I want YOUR vet! They fed you cheesburgers? Lucky dawg! I am glad to hear you are feeling better buddy! Get over that nasty infection soon, OK?

Lots of tripawd love winging its way to you from the Oaktown pack,

  5. Come on Mel- you can do it- eating cheesburgers is a good sign, right?
Don’t second guess yourself- we can never know the answer to ‘what if’.
It may have been better if you didn’t find it- it may have been a lot worse.
You can only know that you are making the best decisions you can, and you are making them with Mel’s best interest at heart. Focus on getting him through this infection, you can worry about the other stuff later.

  8. Dear Mel: We are praying for you, buddy. You looked so cute working the booth at the Home and Garden Show with your mom. You seem like a tough little guy with a big heart. We know you can pull through.
Glad your vet has room service!
Love to your mom too. We know this must be very hard on her.

  9. The vet went out to get you Cheeseburgers!?! Not just one but THREE?!? You can sure teach us tripawds some tricks about how to get spoiled. You are too funny Mel, even when you aren’t feeling at your best.

  10. Keep feeling better, Mel! Perhaps if I get 3 cheeseburgers, I’d feel awesome too 🙂

  11. Mel,
You sure scared me! However, if you can not only eat three cheeseburgers but get your VET to go get them I think you are doing good.
I will be praying for you.

  12. Mel… I’m so glad you’re feeling better after you big scare!!!

I know that you’re probably having some regrets right now… but if you hadn’t done the surgery… then it would only be a matter of time before the pain became too great, or Mel’s leg fractured, or his cancer had metastasized.

So you see, there really isn’t a right answer on what to do… We all do the best we can with the information we have, because we love our babies and just want the best for them… and then we just hope and pray for the best! That’s all you can do!

In the meantime… cheeseburgers are great! What a wonderful vet to go out and get them for Mel!!!

    Feel better soon Mel!!!

  13. I got some bad news a little bit ago. Mels white blood cells were down to just about zero when they ran a CBC. The Dr. said he is alot more concerned after seeing the blood work. They said if he doesn’t start to make more white blood cells in 24-36 hours then his chances of recovery are not good. I went to visit him a little bit ago and he seemed to perk up before i left. I had them take his temp again and it went down to 104.3 so it is headed in the right direction.

  14. C’mon Mel! We’re all rooting for you and know you can pull through! Just think about all the cheeseburgers that await you when you get back home.

In the meantime, we have you in our thoughts, prayers, hearts, and are holding you in our paws, too. It’s encouraging your temperature is coming down – now you need some more white blood cells. We’re all pulling for you, Mel!
